It was great to meet many of you at Curriculum Night on Wednesday, September 28th. Your kids have had a great first month of school, and really seem to have transitioned nicely. If you did not attend Curriculum Night, I have linked you to the presentation.
welcome_to_5th_grade_curriculum_night__.pdf I love seeing the energy from the students ready to learn. As I continue to get to know your students I am trying to differentiate their learning so that I am meeting each of them where they are at. I would like to start extra credit enrichment projects in the next few weeks that students can work on here at school and at home, so keep a look out. Your students are getting close to the completion of their first essay. If you get a chance, ask them about their topic and their inspiration.

It's hard to believe that we are almost done with our first month of school. It has been a great first month. The students have adjusted well to the new school and the new rotating schedule. There are many smiling faces and lots of excitement around the opportunities they get to partake in.
I'm so energized by the students joy around learning. Students are challenging themselves, stretching outside of their comfort zone, and supporting their classmates at the same time. Students this week will experience their first math test with the Envisions math program. They will also be taking a pre-test for problem solving strategies and skills. Don't forget that Curriculum Night is this Wednesday, 6:30-7:15 for 5th grade. We have been having a great year in 5th grade. Students are working hard in class, and putting forth a tremendous effort. I am so proud of all the strategies they are using, and how they are trying to stretch their thinking.
Please continue to check your students planners each night to see their assignments and the happenings at school. It's hard to believe that we will be starting our first full week of school this week. Students have been working hard learning all the procedures and routines. Students will be taking their first district assessment-STAR testing- this Monday and Tuesday. I am excited by all the energy in our classrooms.
Make sure to see the separate pages for specific information on dates and events. Students were given a handout today, Tuesday, about connecting with the remind app. This will allow you to receive messages from me on your phone (probably once a week) giving you reminders about 5th grade events, school events, and upcoming tests in my class. Look for the yellow hand out at home.
I hope that everyone enjoyed the last little bit of summer with the long Labor Day weekend. The first week of school was a success, and we will start off the new week diving into curriculum. Please make sure to send back both the school and 5th grade paperwork as soon as possible. That paperwork includes:
