On Friday, January 26th students were sent home with a letter regarding Valentine's Day. The letter outlines our procedures for Valentine's Day. There will be no formal holiday celebration in any of the 5th grade classes, however we know that some students like to take part in handing out Valentines cards.
The letter generally states: -students should hand out valentines to everyone in their class in the spirit of community if they are choosing to participate -in alignment with the Health and Wellness policy students should not attach any food products to the valentines (including candy), but they may attach other trinkets such as pencils, erasers, or stickers. Please contact a 5th grade teacher with any further questions.

There are many reasons that students are absent lately from school: illness, doctor's appointments, and vacations. Please make your best effort to let the teacher know ahead of time if your child will be missing school. Also, try to communicate with the teacher to determine what your child has missed.
The students have a jam packed day while at school, and little time to make up missing work due to absences. The 5th grade teachers do their best to post resources on our websites and in the Google Classroom to support students in making up their work outside of school. Please contact the 5th grade team with any questions. It looks like we are in for a tough winter filled with snow days, and late and early closings. With that being said, our schedule of weekly events will be altered based on the snow days.
In most situations I will just pick up where we left off the next time we are in school. If there will be a specific change to the schedule when we return then I will post to this website and send out a remind message using the remind app. Students should also come in with the homework that was last given when they return to school. If you have further questions, please contact the teacher directly. This week is the last week before winter break, and there is a lot going on. Wednesday, Dec. 20th is the winter concert rescheduled. Wednesday is also the Midwest map identification quiz in social studies. Thursday there is a quiz in math: this is on division with two digit divisors, division with decimals, and multiplication with decimals.
Friday we have a lot of fun events planned during the half day. If you have not sent your student in with a holiday/greeting card, please do some by Wednesday. We will be using this for a creative art/math activity on Friday. Students will also be creating elaborate snowflakes and poems for our bulletin board. They will also get the chance to participate in snow science with Mrs. Smith. The day will culminate with a pep rally between our boys and girls basketball teams. This week is the hour of code. Ms. GC our Enrichment teacher shared this website that students can use to explore this great activity.
https://hourofcode.com/us/how-to Hi Everyone, We are doing special winter related events on Friday, December 22nd. A flyer was sent home on Wednesday, Dec. 6th outlining the activities. ALL students are asked to bring in ONE GREETING CARD. The link below shows what we will be doing with this item. I have also included the flyer that was sent home. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQtee_BoQH0
It was nice getting the opportunity to meet with some parents the week of Thanksgiving. If at any time you any parent in the 5th grade would like to meet with the 5th grade team, please contact one of the teachers and we will be happy to set it up.
This is a busy month for most. Between activities during and after the school day students tend to be more tired. Please take the time to help your students plan out their week-looking at their activities, as well as due date for assignments. Thanks in advance for your support and help. Fundraisers- There are two fundraisers currently occurring at school. One to raise money for hurricane relief, and another to collect toys for a toy drive. There will also be a Pajama Day this Friday to raise money for CCMC. The 5th grade team is excited to meet with families next week regarding some of our 5th graders. We will do our best to stay on time for each conference appointment in order to best honor your time as well. Conferences will be held in my room, room 202. If you have any concerns regarding your conference time please email me or one of the 5th grade teachers.
Also, I hope that all of you enjoy a wonderful Thanksgiving with friends and family and some much needed time off. |
